Making a Brushless Motor
Просмотров 39 тыс.4 года назад
With nothing else to do during the 2020 Lockdown I’ve finally had a chance to edit down over 250 GB of build footage to a more watchable 4 GB. I hope you enjoy it and let me know what you think in the comments. I've kept the video on the channel theme of building, welding, and machining and it's intentionally light on theory. But if anyone wants to find our more then please do let me know and m...

Welding Table Build
Просмотров 9 тыс.5 лет назад
This is my take on putting together a welding bench. I’m no expert welder, with a just a bit of practice over weekends, so please don’t see this as instructional. That being said, if you fancy building your own welding table this video might give you a few ideas!
Recycling Aluminium in the Home Foundry, and Some Tudors
Просмотров 2,7 тыс.5 лет назад
Someone was kind enough to give me an LM25 aluminium gravity cast box that they didn’t need. I don’t have any particular use for it a the moment, but as I had nothing better to do I thought I’d break it down into easier to store ingots.
Casting a Bronze Flywheel at Home
Просмотров 7 тыс.5 лет назад
This is another quick filler video whilst I’m in between bigger projects. It’s a rework of a casting I did a couple of years ago, with some improved techniques and better video. (After a bit of discussion below, and on another forum, I’m now of the opinion the tapping thing is completely unnecessary and born of superstition and bad advice. It’s really annoying that RUclips have got rid of annot...
ZL12 Casting to Repair a Drum Kit Bracket with a 3D Printed Pattern
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.5 лет назад
I’ve never been entirely happy with the results I’ve had casting LM25 aluminium, and I think that’s because I still haven’t got the process quite right. I get a few too many defects, and it doesn’t seem particularly strong when I machine it. This video is a quick experiment to compare the results with ZL12 zinc-aluminium, and after a recommendation from MyFordBoy. Music: Scott Jocelyn, Weeping ...
Making a Lidar scanner in the home shop with a lathe, a pair of STM32s, and a Garmin Lidar Lite
Просмотров 118 тыс.6 лет назад
This is a hobby build Lidar using the Garmin Lite V3 range finder module. The design work was done in Fusion 360 CAD and the Eagle PCB layout editor. The mechanical build was with a Warco lathe and mill. PCBWay were used to manufacture the microcontroller boards, with both running STM32 family devices. The 'C' embedded code was created using STM Cube and the Keil compiler tool chain. Graphical ...

This is a render of the data produced by my hobby build Lidar after a scan of my back garden. I’ll hopefully have the full build video ready soon! The Lidar was built using a Garmin Lite V3, an STM32 micro-controller pair, and a Warco lathe and mill. The rendering is in Unity3D. Mechanical design was in Fusion 360, PCB design in Eagle, and PCB manufacture by PCBway. The music can be found on au...
Home Made Lidar First Test
Просмотров 9 тыс.6 лет назад
This is a demonstration of a device called a Lidar that I’ve been building. It’s based on the Garmin Lidar Lite V3 and works just like a radar, but instead of radio waves it uses pulses of light to build a 3D map of its surrounding that we can recreate on a computer. I’ve a few hundred hours of machining video to edit before you see the build, but I’ll look forward to sharing just as soon as it...
Tesla Turbine Build
Просмотров 420 тыс.6 лет назад
I’ve been set the challenge of building an arrangement that can spin a shaft at 30,000 RPM and can do it pneumatically. A Tesla Turbine seemed like the most interesting option, and this is the build. I've been inspired by JohnnyQ90, so a massive thanks to him for publishing his videos and answering my questions. If you haven’t seen his work, then take a look here: ruclips.net/user/johnnyq90

Homemade Gyroscope Demonstration, Gimbal Lock, and Inertial Guidance
Просмотров 281 тыс.7 лет назад
This is a demonstration of a homemade gyroscope and gimbal set. It shows how gyroscopes can be used in inertial guidance systems, and the problem of gimbal lock. Many thanks to ClickSpring for the inspiration to build a gyroscope, and many thanks to the record label ultimae.com/ and the artist Scann Tec for kind permission to use the track 'Lenta'. Fantastic
Creative video, thanks :)
nice
I always wonder where the heck do people find this material at home because my old "house" is empty. There is only cardboard broken glass and random tools.
David would you mind sharing how you made the LiDAR Scanner?
this is the video i was looking for
Hello David, I'm a machinist and looking for a project to challenge myself and to keep myself busy with. Did you machine this yourself? Well if you don't mind, is it possible to get the drawings of this elegant masterpiece. I just want an inspiration on how you made it and what kind of bearings you used. I'd really appreciate it. Otherwise good job, greetings from Denmark.
Give it to me please 😊😊😊
I use type k thermoouple & it lasts years as I put it into a very thin wall stainless steel sleeve & always coat it with a refractory wash every time I use it then afterwards it just taps off. same with moulds for surplus metal after pouring as molten alloy corrodes steel moulds but not with a refractory wash
Wow, that's a seriously amazing video, can you please tell me on which page you got Chris' design?
that is an elegant demonstration about how a math concept describes deterministic limiting static factors of dynamic physical systems
wow amazing. Sir. how i can contact you?
Very nice work.
Officer: Sir, why aren't both your hands on the wheel when driving? Him: Sorry officer, my hands were... Locked
Man can I buy this?
In a rocket stove the equilibrium of full pyrolisis is created by the length of tube after the burn chamber. Although mostly smoke free, your design is letting most of the VOC (flammable gasses) release before combustion. Basically just a contained fire (evidenced by the bright yellow flame). Yours would benefit greatly from moving the feed tube lower, and in the middle of the 90° bend. By circumstance it also creates a larger burn chamber and will burn hotter. You will need a fire grate, but it really doesn't conplicate things, mount it halfway up the bottom tube from end to end. There is a ratio between the pipes as well. 3:2:1 being the riser, the air tube, and the feed tube respectively. Please try the mods, and take this travesty down.
I am missing the stability feats under the stove very dangerous when it falls beside
How do you compensate for the speed changing on the gyro for navigation? I assume you gotta put a motor on it but then, doesnt that create a counter force?
Runs great ! Good job.
Are the old-style, mechanically brushed armatures embellished with any intrinsic value? Does its DESIGN hold any inherent mechanical advantage over brushless designs?
do you sell them please i am in lancashire
Very good, how many kilos of bronze this size supports?
What kind of gas are you using?
I’m going to build a couple of these with our church youth group. This is an excellent simple build that can be done with some relatively basic tools. Thank you!
This is the music from the OLD RUclips "Forest Lord" video isn't it...
中国人非常感谢你❤
Seems like the steel bearings would wear out quickly. Thank you.
so good. thanks.
Good ideas abaut machining job.
too bad you didn't run the bearings in for a week or two before installing them..waaay better performance... but hey..live and learn right?
You are a great teacher very clear explanations including measurements thanks
Cool video. Not sure if I would have cast it myself had I owned the machines you do but I do like the finished product very much. I want one.
Muchas gracias wro
Great vid……make more plz
Good job. Thank you
Well done video, look forward to making something similar but for making custom dies for a bead roller!
What is your method for initially setting a radius? Measure off lathe centerline to tool tip?
Meant to say, "measure off pivot point to tool tip"?

Nice work. I don't know why, but your soundtrack for "Test Day," put a smile on my face. Thanks
Great sharing
Hi David, I'm trying to get in touch about making a gyroscope. I tried emailing your email address on your About Us RUclips page but the email didn't go through.
A gumbo lock is Perfect. If your flying in a UFO. Turning in a 90%.
Looks bloody awesome to me!
Need measurements to make the tool please
not a good design because the fire came out to the wood chamber
Wonderful video thank you
Can you make to me a telsla turbine wich can a generator 10kw i will buy it?
